“In the early days of KIPP, there was a perspective that valued some level of entrepreneurship in the classroom. That included a willingness to admit if something was not working, and a willingness to try something different. These early lessons got us to scale, and were hugely beneficial. Now we realize that more standardization is necessary for quality, but you need a bit of both to continue to grow.”
