Attended: KIPP NYC Public Schools
Current Career: Founding Principal, KIPP Affirm Middle School
Dominique R. Mejia founded KIPP Affirm Middle School after completing a Fisher Fellowship and one year as a Principal in Residence. She taught English language arts for seven years (starting at KIPP DC WILL Academy and continuing at KIPP Infinity Middle School) before becoming a dean, instructional coach, and D.E.I. coordinator. Dominique has also enjoyed coaching student sports, music groups, and step teams, as well as creating educational and inspirational music videos for her students. She is entering her 13th year as an educator and her 26th year as a KIPPster, having joined KIPP as a sixth grade student when KIPP Academy first opened its doors more than two decades ago in the Bronx. Dominique is overjoyed and honored to be the first alumna in KIPP’s history to found a KIPP school, and plans to ensure she is not the last. A first-generation high school and college graduate, she received her BA in communications from the University of Maryland at College Park (GO TERPS!) and her MAT in secondary general education from the Relay Graduate School of Education. Outside of work, Dominique enjoys singing, traveling, and spending time with her closest family and friends. She lives in the Bronx with her favorite people on the planet: her husband, Juan, their toddler twin daughters, and her three teenaged siblings.
