Susan founded KEY Academy—DC’s first KIPP school—in 2001, and was named CEO of KIPP DC in 2005. Under her guidance, the network has grown to sixteen schools and become the highest performing school system in the District. Earlier, Susan spent nine years in the classroom, including with Teach For America in Baltimore. She also worked on teacher training with Teach For America and in rural Ethiopia with the International Foundation of Education.
